If you are a podcaster, you may be interested in what I use to record the show.

Computer: Dell Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP Pro with 2 gigs of memory.

(UPDATED 3/2008) MacBook, 4gigs memory, Leopard. 120 gig hard drive.

Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook 24 bit pcmcia external

Microphone: Electrovoice RE50B

Mixer: Behringer Eurorack UB1002FX 24 bit 40 khz

Production: Castblaster or Sony Acid Music Studio, depending on the content.

Pre production Audacity or Sony Acid Music Studio

Remote recording: I do have a Sony MZ-RH910 Hi-MD mini-disk recorder, but it is really not very handy and the display is hard to read. I don’t find it to be very easy to use.

I recently bought a Zoom H4, which I am liking so far. I should do a review of it.

  4. How does the RE50B sound on the Zoom H4?

  5. Kevin, I never was that happy with how the Zoom H4 handled the RE50B.  Biggest problem is signal to noise.  Perhaps it would work better with a condenser mic.  My friend Mark Tafoya from the Remarkable Palate had the same problem with the H4, so he got the Edirol R-09 and likes it a lot.  That said, I think the H4 does an outstanding job recording stereo with its built-in mics.
