Turn Up the Volume

January 30th, 2008 by Brian

John Edwards give up his bid for the nomination today and I wonder how the tone will change in this campaign.  His voice was strong and loud, frequently adding sharp notes to the process.  I hope the volume of voices will go up, not down.

An imperfect government is fine with me as long as it remains a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.  For this to remain we need to speak up.  While electing a woman president is extremely important, I want a leader who can best tap into the energy and passion in all of us as a nation to get involved in our country so together we can get it on the right track again.  Hillary Clinton is technically proficient and very bright.  She will have no trouble making decisions.  I am not worried at all about her ability to protect the constitution.  I do worry about another four or eight years someone who is so sure of everything that the people have no voice.

My conviction is Barack Obama is genuine in his passion to kindle the qualities, ideas, and energies in each of us.  Instead of another leader “finding their voice” only to tell us what is best for us, we need a leader who wants to hear ours.  I believe that leader is Barack Obama.

I donated to the Obama campaign this week and then opened a fund raising page on his site where a goal of $1000 has been set.  If I knew my donation wouldn’t count I would have waited until after I made the page.   That thermometer looks pretty chilly right now.  That doesn’t matter, of course.  What matters is next Tuesday may be a make-or-break primary for the Obama campaign.

Whether or not you actually support this guy for president I  invite you to join me by making a contribution if one thing is true.  Has he moved you in some way?  If so, will you help help turn up the volume? As a country is moved to action instead of apathy by the people adding their voices, we can once again enjoy a government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.
