October is a great month. For me, it is. Maybe I like October because it is my birthday month, and my parents kept reminding me how beautiful that day was when I was born. They talked about the bright blue sky and the trees all dazzled up in their vibrant color peak. Most people I’ve talked to like fall scenery.
Here in the U.P., between the little towns of Hancock and Houghton, Michigan is a lift bridge. I cross it nearly every day to go to the office. Two years ago this morning I took a moment on my way in to work to capture the sunshine through the bridge, just as it made the bridge appear on fire.
Turning the opposite direction, I snapped a shot of the fog on the canal.
I really love moments like that, when I have a camera and can share the experience.
Earlier this week, my parents made a wonderful birthday meal. We’ve had a lot of cold rainy weather this month, but good food and good memories are as warm and colorful as ever. Happy October to you!

October is indeed a fantastic month! My son was just born on October 1st (almost two weeks ago now…). Once my wife and I recover, we’ll finally get a chance to update our vlog a little more regularly.
Fantastic pictures–especially of the bridge “on fire.” It’s fascinating to be seeing the same everyday sights from someone else’s virtual point of view! (my family & I live just south of Houghton in Strange Range, and we get to see the bridge every morning)
How does it feel to be one of the few UP vloggers out there?

Nate – Congrats on having an October boy! I’ve seen some of your videos from 1-2 years ago. I must run over and see what you’re up to. Thank you for stopping by!
As for UP vloggers… hmmm. Just us, or are there others?? Actually, I’m not officially anything lately. Soon, perhaps.
