Audio Attitude 35 Presidential Moon

September 13th, 2006 by Brian

Why did Kennedy decide to challenge the US to land a man on the moon before 1970? He was an unpopular president when he made the decision. How did he get congress to buy it? Lessons learned in an era of fear. I explore the lead-up to US interest in space during the 1950’s, the fear of the Soviet Union, Duck and Cover, the space race, and Presidents Eisenhower, and JFK. Audio from JFK, propoganda film, and Sputnik. This episode is big - 68 minutes.
